Here’s a term that needs to go away: “mid-major,” which, in college sports, is simply a politically expedient synonym for “minor.”
REMEMBER THE TITANS?
Tennessee Titans kicker (and all-time NFL leading scorer) Gary Anderson has retired. Anderson is 44 years old. That’s not very old in the grand scheme of things. But, for perspective, consider that the Atlanta Falcons’ new head coach, Jim Mora Jr., is only 42. Jon Gruden, head coach of last year’s Super Bowl-winning Bucs, is 40.
Gary Anderson was a teammate of Terry Bradshaw. For more than one season! That’s how long he’s been playing football.
As for Anderson’s future plans, besides being voted into the NFL Hall of Fame, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King reports that Anderson plans to pursue a second career . . . as a professional fly fisherman.
