THE HORRORS OF A PASTOR’S LIFE

Jsut got back from a meeting of our fundraising commitee. We had some very important work to tend to tonight: testing out stir-fry and jambalaya recipes for the community festival this summer.

(Editor’s note: Since this blog has a significant Southern readership, I’ll allow you to speculate on what must pass for jambalaya in Wisconsin. Suffice it to say, the recipe that everybody judged to be “too spicy” was the only one that tasted about right to me.)

I am well-fed and happy, though, as my wife puts it, I smell like a sub shop.

  1. Them midwest folks is strange on food, I tell ya.

I never understood why Kansas City people would create their amazingly spicy and perky BBQ sauces and then refuse to countenance the notion of a smidgeon of jalepeno in their “Mexican” food.

  2. KC barbecue sauce is slow-igniting and doesn’t burn very hot. Jalapenos don’t, either, IMO, but you pretty much know the minute you’ve eaten one. I think maybe that’s the difference.

Now, try to figure out why the folks in Des Moines favor spicy barbecue sauces *and* Thai food.
