A NOTE FOR MY FELLOW TONY KORNHEISER FANS

Anybody who, after listening to today’s show, believes that Tony’s departure is 100% voluntary and has nothing to do with that guy whose name rhymes with “Slim Chrome,” please raise your hand.

  1. I have to agree: it wasn’t hard to hear between the lines today–this wasn’t a wholly voluntary move.

I must agree with Tony: I would rather hear from Sportwriters than from athletes.

  3. I find it interesting that the big-city affilliates were the ones that wouldn’t carry TK’s show.

If it turns out that switching to a show with a younger focus doesn’t help the clearance/ratings in those markets, what will ESPN do next? Throw large amounts of money at Rome??

Goodbye, Mr. Tony. You’re close to my father’s age, and your politics are nowhere near mine, but I’ve really enjoyed the show. Especially the long-gone Internet portion.

  4. Jim, I doubt they’ll throw large amounts of money at Rome. They’ve already done that on television–twice–and they’ve never been satisfied with the results. (Why else would “Rome Is Burning” be on at such a ridiculous hour on a work/school night?)

  5. I’ve always been in a Rome city so never got to listen to Tony on the radio.
I would like Rome a lot more if there were less callers. The interviews are good, sometimes great, and there have been times I’ve been laughing so hard I had to pull the car over.

  6. I could tolerate Rome if he would promise to never, ever take another phone call from the public. His callers are even more inept at public discourse than he is.

  7. A close friend was one of Tony K’s producers and remains on for the new guy. He says the new show will be more talk radio than personality-chats-with-friends. But in week one, they are going live in Los Angeles. The new show, my friend says, will be challenging behind the scenes, but looks to be a good product. Give it a chance.

  8. I do plan on giving it a chance . . . I like what little I’ve heard of Colin.

  10. Is Tony doing a local radio show in the D.C. area? If so, what is the radio station?

  11. Its time to let ESPN radio management know how we feel. A friend of mine started this petition to let ESPN know how much we dislike “The Herd”. If you feel the same way, please go and sign it. Thanks.
