A STUNNING LACK OF CLARETT-Y

The US 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals has dealt a possible death-blow to Maurice Clarett’s quest to enter the NFL draft, ruling that the the NFL’s case against allowing underclassmen into the draft has “a likelhood of success on its merits.”

The possibility remains that Clarett (and Mike Williams) will be ruled eligible for the draft, but that the ruling will come too late for them to take part in the main draft this weekend. Clarett, Williams, and what ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli terms “seven other undistinguished underclassmen” would then be eligible to take part in a later supplemental draft–a move which is not without precedent when underclassmen declare their eligibility too late to qualify for the regular draft.

Personally, I’ve gotten very sick of Clarett and his sontinual insistence that he’s a precedent-breaking talent. He’s certainly a gifted runner, but he’s not so exceptional that the rules ought to be broken for him. I contend that, if this weren’t such a lousy RB draft, you wouldn’t be hearing about Clarett at all–he’d be content to stay at OSU.
