A PUBLIC FLOGGING
I would like to apologize to fans of the Sklar brothers and their TV show Cheap Seats. You may recall from this post that I once referred to that show as “the worst TV program ever.”
Now, at the time, my statement was true. But since then, a show has come along which is much, much worse–VH1’s A2Z.
Let me sum it up for you in a sentence: “People you’ve never heard of (but will instantly dislike) discuss uninteresting facts about people you certainly have heard of (and have grown to dislike) on a program with a budget that, from the looks of things, approaches nearly $186 an episode.” It’s like the worst moments of I Love The [insert exploitable decade here], only without the rapier wit and intellectual floridness of Hal Sparks and Sir Mix-A-Lot. Most shows have interns; some shows (Cheap Seats) claim to be about interns; VH1’s A2Z, I think, actually stars interns.
So, anyway, Sklar Brothers fans, my apologies. I can no longer honestly say that Cheap Seats is the worst show on TV. I once thought “MST3K meets Wide World Of Sports” was the worst possible concept for a TV show; I now know that “VH1 turns the channel over to a bunch of Janeane Garofalo disciples and tells them to pretend they’re on E!” is much more horrible.
