COMMANDER IN CHIEF

Something just struck me tonight as I was planning another one of my whiny “I’m a swing voter and you’re not talking about anything that interests me” posts. I got to thinking about the constant accusations of dishonorable service being flung between Bush and Kerry. I still don’t care; as usual, I’ve already decided that neither of these clowns is perfect enough to be president, but one of them is going to be.

Anyway, I was going to say that even a paralyzed amoeba can tell that Kerry’s military record is to Bush’s what the Lakers’ record is to the Clippers’, but then I realized that things are not so clear cut. Follow me on this:

John Kerry served in the Navy in the late 60s and early 70s.
George Bush served in the Texas Air Guard during the same period.

John Kerry saw combat duty in Vietnam.
George Bush did not.

Despite John Kerry’s best efforts, South Vietnam fell to the Communists in 1975.

While George Bush was in the Texas Air Guard, the Mexicans did not gain one inch of American soil.

Really, I can’t believe Karl Rove isn’t making a bigger deal of this.
