A TERRIFYING REALIZATION
My gosh . . . we actually played Europe’s “The Final Countdown” in my high-school jazz band. And Mr. Mister’s (or is it Mister Mr? I can never remember) “Kyrie.” What, nobody could find a big-band chart for “West End Girls?”

Wow. You must be about my age. We played The Final Countdown, along with Bon Jovi’s “Linving On A Prayer”, Sheena Easton’s “Strut”, and Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”, among several other trite pop-hits.
Mr. Old guy, you.

I found “Working in a Coal Mine” in our music library, and begged our band director for 4 solid years to let us play it. He never did.
He gave me the sheet music (all parts) as a graduation present.
When I got to college, I begged our band director to let us play it for 5 solid years.
I don’t know what happened to the sheet music.

Ted, whatever happened to the sheet music, it probably had it coming.
I also remember playing Peter Cetera’s “The Glory of Love”–the song from The Karate Kid. Despite all this, I still believe in school music programs.
Oh, and Grub, I’m the same age Jesus was when he died, a fact I remind myself of every day.

Outkast translates well to marching band music though. I’ve heard “Hey Ya!” and “The Way You Move” at several football games this season.
