A midwestern, self-effacing all-around comedian who doesn't pander to the public and cheapen his image through commercials, etc. It is a shame that he didn't get to follow Carson on the Tonight Show, but he certainly has done well. Jay Leno is more like the Al Roker of the night. Letterman is Carson’s true successor - he’s our generation’s version of him. With Johnny's passing, Leno should leave now to save the show's title from further tarnish. I am looking forward to Letterman's first new show following today's sad news.
