A TYPICAL POINTLESS TBP UPDATE

They still make TaB. And apparently ‘TaB’ is the correct way to spell the soft drink which preceded Diet Coke by about 20 years.

Of course, I’ve known about TaB’s existence for a while. I once had a parishioner who was a keeper of the TaB torch and, since her husband owned a convenience store, she was able to have a more-or-less unending supply of the stuff. I mostly recalled TaB as one of those products I used to remember seeing all the time. Eventually my curiosity got the better of me and I had to try it.

I think it tastes a lot more like Coke than Diet Coke does.

At one time I held out great hopes that TaB would fill a gap in my household; namely, that of being a soda which I could tolerate but my soda-crazed wife wouldn’t touch. And, indeed, the first time I brought home a 12-pack, she didn’t drink a one. But then all the other soda was gone, and my sinister plan was foiled.

So I guess it’s back to square one. Too bad that Jones Soda is all sold out of their Green Bean Casserole soda from Thanksgiving.

  1. I used to always wonder, when I was a kid, why my dad ate the weirdest things. He would always be bringing strange food from “the shop” (where he worked) most likely based on some wild animal “Yeh - try it, moose heart is really lean…”. He always was into cooking up wacky things from his garden, homemade Saurkraut (pressed down in the crock pot with a pine board an a rock) and even had a passing love of Black-eyed Pea dishes.

Now - being a dad myself, I have come into full understanding. With two growing kids in the family, my wife can go drop a couple hundred bucks at the grocery store, and by the time I get home from work the next day, all the “good stuff” is gone. Thus, I have started the journey to find my “dad foods” that the kids won’t touch.

Following in my father’s footsteps, I am now a fan of:

    - Picked Ham
    - Vinegar and Salt Potato chips
    - Anything with corned beef
    - Weird Mustards
    - Suarkraut (thanks dad)
    - Roasted Peanuts (Not popular in my house for some reason, although my son is beginning to like these…)

    - Love - Ever snacking
