REVERSAL OF FORTUNE
According to WTF-TV, Brett Favre has changed his mind and decided not to return to the Green Bay Packers for next season. Public relations personnel for the Packers have been quoted in the Milwaukee media as saying that Favre has asked permission to seek a trade, and the Packers have granted him that permission. Reportedly, the New Orleans Saints are the leading contender, offering their first-round draft picks both this year and next, plus a package of late-round picks this year, in exchange for the perennial all-pro quarterback. In a statement released at approximately 10:33 AM (CST) this morning, however, the Saints denied they had made any contact with the Packers. League officials had no comment.
Fans of the Pack have been swift in reacting to the news. On a Chicago Bears message board, a Pack fan known only as ‘4Favre4Evah’ was quoted as saying, “First Schiavo, then the Pope, now this. It’s never been a worse time to be me.” Other Pack fans are waxing philosophical, with one fan quoted as saying, “The starting QB of the Overrated Team is Brett Favre. He is backed up by Peyton Manning and Chad Pennington.” Lots more to come as the day goes on . . .
