Iowa needed a home game for 2005, so UNI was in the offering, since a Top 25 Divsion I-AA team, within the State of Iowa is better than one outside the State. Iowa did pick up Syracuse in 2006 to replace Missouri, which is a better situation.

In 1985, Iowa won the Big Ten outright. They ended up with Drake and Northern Illiniois, since KU (chickened out like Missouri) and Miami-FL didn't want to come to the midwest twice in the same year.

Hopefully, like 1985, Iowa can reach #1 at some point in the season. It would be a great step under Coach Ferentz!

Two Points re Iowa:

It was W. Hoolow's 1st TD catch, not his first catch, although it may have seemed like it. By the way, there was three completions on Iowa's last drive, Hinkel made the first one, who had the other?

2. The Missouri Chickens were on Iowa's schedule, but they backed out on a 4 game contract with Iowa, that is why UNI, Northern Iowa, is on our shedule. The chickens wanted to play Ark. State instead, becasue Brad Smith is going to win the Heisman, so the chickens say.

Also, I did not read the comments before I decided to make my point and therefore do not know that Mark already dealt with the Warren Holloway issue. But boy, do I feel better for correcting him a second time!

Clarett hasnt played for Ohio Staet in what will be 3 seasons. What that has to do with the 2005 squad shows just how out of touch you really are. Heck Eddie George isnt at OSU anymore either and that has about as much relavence to the 2005 squad as Clarett.

Smith played erratically in the Purdue game, his FIRST road game and you want to cast his performance as though his career is going to be that way.

Ok Zippy what about the Michigan game performance? He was rattled for 246 yards passing and another 140+ rushing. Oh, let me guess, that was just a fluke right? Biggest game on the schedule and he somehow fluked his way to making a mockery of the michigan defense....

By the way, you are permitted to enjoy the irony of my questioning someone's intelligence when this post clearly shows that I cannot spell, punctuate, or proofread; nor do I have even a passing familiarity with the names 'Eric Hipple,' 'Cliff Stoudt,' or 'Marv Seiler.' I should probably just go back to the message board, where I never have to deal with or justify any opinion more controversial than 'Archie Griffin was good.'

"Fake Miami" FYI Miami University in Ohio is older than the city of Miami in FL. City in FL was actually named by a group of folks from Ohio who took the name with them. Named for the Miami Indians, Miami River etc. Ohio. Neither Miami is "Fake". But if you are talking about "Original" Miami -- then that is in Ohio.

volpundit, I'm offering no break for the Hawkeyes, since (a) they're my team, and (b) they certainly could have found a I-A opponent. Mizzou turned chickenous well over a year ago. You are correct about Holloway catching more than one pass in '04; he caught 29. I regret the error . . . but I still think the Hawks have no business playing UNI.

Warren Holloway's Capital One miracle was his only TOUCHDOWN of the season, not his only catch. Also, Iowa scheduled UNI because Missouri backed out of a game with them. Give them a break.

Dammit, Hasty, your Big 10 prediction is almost identical to mine. Switch OSU and Iowa and I think it's identical.

And you might be the only person in the world I've found who agrees with me that Texas will go into Columbus and beat OSU.

Mills as a freshman was something else. I don't know what the hell happened to him; rumors range from never-healed-injury to Jay-Paterno-being-a-complete-boob to a combination of the two.
