  1. Having lived in Alabama for over 8 years now, I have to concur. I am from a football-crazy place (Texas), but there is something distinct about Crimson Tide fans that makes this job less appealing than it otherwise might be. Of course, part of the problem is that Tide fans think that the Bama job is THE premiere job in college sports, when it clearly isn’t. There is a certain segment of Tide fans that are totally out of touch with reality–far moreso than your typical college football fanatic.

  2. I listened to a little of Finebaum today, and it really surprised me, as an outsider, how much Bama fans truly believe THEY are the GREATEST TEAM ON THE PLANET and HOW DARE ANYONE not want the GREATEST JOB ON THE EARTH.

    Oklahoma felt that way. Gibbs, Schnellenberger, and Blake knocked some sense into them and emptied the bandwagon of the most obnoxious fans. And yet, after DuBose, Franchione, and Schula, Bama fans still haven’t awoken to the reality that on a good day they’re still the second best team in the state, and on a bad day they’re not even the best team with “University of Alabama” in their name.

    Until the bandwagon is cleared of these idiots, Bama’s search for a decent coach will be akin to a blind squirrel looking for acorns.

  3. It’s kind of amazing that Rodriguez told them he’d prefer to stay in the Mohole. It’s even more amazing that, basically, everyone feels they made the right decision. Bama needs a couple 1-11 seasons to gain some perspective. Otherwise this is how it’s going to be until everyone who remembers Bear has shuffled off this mortal coil.

    It can happen. Look at Minnesota football . . .

  4. Bama Nation needs more than a couple of 1-11 seasons to gain perspective. Trust me on this, their excuse/rationale set could easily outlast two such years. Especially since even then they’d probably beat Mississippi State .

    I listened to Finebaum on R-Day as well, and I concur with your assessment.

    Further, it seems to me that staying made perfect sense for Rodriguez. He got a raise, he is living where he is from, he doesn’t have to go through the hassle of moving his family and, quite frankly, he has a better shot at a national title at WV than he does at Alabama, at least in the medium-to-short term.
