Tim In retrospect, no, I was right in the first place . . . TCU didn't quit, and it sure seemed like Tennessee did.

Okay, you can take TCU out of the equation. But that's it.

Do you really think that all the teams you have ranked 18-25 are better than Tennessee?

Dan Yeah, I mean, I was pulling for TCU to make some noise, but I'm actually happy Texas got its act together, because OU needs some competition. Otherwise it's just going to be too, too easy for them once the conference season starts. The punditocracy still says U$C #1, but I disagree, and they're going to have to completely dominate Nebraska the way LSU dominated VT to get me to change my mind.

M1EK I've moved on to hazelnut coffee. At least, I think it's hazelnut coffee.

Well, I'm pretty happy with the way Texas pulled itself together, too. We were saying that the game ball ought to go to whoever gave the locker room speech. But after the way the offense sucked in the first half, I definitely didn't think we'd be able to squeeze a 21-point win out of it. The defense played pretty well the whole game (granted, TCU doesn't have much of an offense), but we really gamed their defense well in the second half. Plus, they were visibly exhausted by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, and we were just able to dominate them with o-line depth.

I'm with you on LSU #1 and Oklahoma #2, too. Sam Bradford looks fantastic, and we knew going into the season their defense had re-upped on the scary-scary. I have a sick, sinking feeling that the RRS in Dallas is going to be another one of those 65-13 lubeless fistings of years past. And of course, this is the year I'm actually going to get to go to the game.

RUTS I still have ample opportunity to look like an idiot, but Brian Kelly has been a success everywhere he's been, and I want to be an early adopter now that he's at a school where he can make some real noise.

Jon A couple folks in the Des Moines media circle are saying there's a pretty good chance ISU goes 0-12 this year.

Hawkeye State 1. The only person who ever believed that myth was Jim Walden. If that rumor is true, that would mean that the ISU marching band is better coordinated than the ISU defense. 2. I can't pull the trigger on Iowa yet, with the victories being over NIU and Syracuse. If Iowa wins this week, it'll still be hard to put them in the top 25, since they will only have beaten an Iowa State team that has shown absolutely nothing so far. Oregon you could make a case for, but their wins are over two unranked teams. As for Sparty, I can assert that I have no interest in naked warriors and this past week's game almost made me drop MSU but they DID win, and I think Dantonio is a little ahead of schedule in rejuvenating things in East Lansing. As I'm fond of saying, though, it's never too early to be wrong.

1. I heard a rumor the ISU marching band blew up a cardboard spaceship with "Hawks" painted on it. If so (and I have to believe it is), can we officially give up the myth that ISU sees Iowa as just another game?

2. No Hawks? No Ducks? Michigan State? Some anti-bird, pro-naked warrior bias there, Mark.
